Click your virus protection program icon. The icon is located at the bottom right of the task bar. If you cannot find the icon, click the Start button at the bottom left of the screen. Slide to All Programs. Find the virus protection program. Click on the icon to open the program.
Look for a button or tab that indicates updates. It is often called updates or live updates. Click on this button. Make sure you are connected to the Internet. The anti-virus program will go to its own website through the internet to update to the latest definitions.
Wait for a while as the program searches the database. If it finds a virus, it will send that definition to your computer. Your computer will automatically load that definition to prevent virus from attacking your computer. The program will tell you when the definition has been found and also tell you when it is done loading that definition.
Close all other programs and then scan your computer. Scan your computer every time you get a new live update so your computer can be protected from the latest virus threats. Click automatic when you install your virus protection software so your computer program will automatically update itself each day at a specific time.
