Store Clerk

Hiring a store clerk can be a challenging task. People are usually hired based on education and experience. That being said, it is sometimes difficult to tell if someone is going to have the customer service level that is needed to be a store clerk. Experience is a major plus and references also help. But just because someone has listed a few references doesn't mean that they are going to be a great clerk. There are a few key features that should be looked for when hiring a store clerk.

Personal appearance is key. People should not be hired based on looks alone. However, someone that presents themselves in a professional manner is necessary when behind a desk. First impressions can give you an idea of how someone takes care of themselves. If a person is well manicured during your initial interview, this is a positive sign.

Assertiveness is another great quality to have as a store clerk. So when hiring a clerk you want to make sure that they are comfortable with themselves. The clerk is usually the first person that someone approaches when trying to locate something. The clerk should be assertive in giving directions as well as taking them.

A winning personality also works when hiring store clerks. The clerk comes into contact with many people on a daily basis. They are representing the store so it is important that the clerk have a wining personality. No one wants to hire someone that is going to make others feel awkward while checking out.

Finally, dedication plays a huge role. Take time to look over the clerks resume. If it appears they are constantly relocating or job hopping take this into consideration. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are not right for your job, but you do want to question them on this aspect of their resume. It is important to find out a person's true intentions before hiring them
