Log on to Photo.net and go to the Learning section (see Resources below). Read through dozens of articles on the basics of photography. Learn about the basic elements of taking photographs if you are a beginner or novice. If you are beyond that stage, Photo.net has several article on specific techniques, including macro photography and portraiture. Read through the forums to get more ideas about style and technique. No two photographers are the same and no two photographers will have the same opinion on a similar matter.
Post questions on the forum if you have them. A photographer's community is a great platform for learning and most photographers are more than happy to share their knowledge. Look at as many pictures as you can. Creativity comes not only from original thought but a foundation of ideas. Increasing your visual vocabulary will only help you become a better photographer. Experiment with the basic techniques you have learned and try to improve upon them. Post your photographs at Photo.net and ask for critiques
