Turn off or unplug sensitive electronics before cleaning them to lessen their charge and keep new dust from accumulating as you clean. Clean from top to bottom. This pushes dust towards the floor and makes it less likely to resettle behind you. Use microfiber or electrostatic cloths whenever possible. Both of these fabrics trap a majority of the dust they remove, further reducing the amount that goes back into the air. They also don't need additional cleaners or water in order to work effectively.
Spray compressed air into all the nooks and crannies of your devices, including inside disk drawers and tape slots, before dusting. This will expel the dust inside the electronics before you clean the outside. This is particularly important for devices that have optical lenses, such as DVD players. Wipe down the outsides of all of your devices and clean underneath them as well. Always wipe away from ventilation areas so you don't push dust back into the device.
